V-Ray uses a floating license system meaning that the licenses are gathered from a chosen machine running the license server. The license server itself is a service running in the background and must do so to let V-Ray use the licenses.

When V-Ray is installed you may need to check that this service is started automatically, otherwise you will need to start it manually every time your server machine is booted.

Windows

This is how you start the license server:

  1. Make sure the hardware lock is in the computer that will be running V-Ray
  2. Start the license server on Windows Start > All Programs > Chaos Group > V-Ray License Server for x64 > Launch V-Ray license server
  3. Go to http://localhost:30304 in firefox/chrome
  4. If you see "Get status of the server" you have connection to the license server

We recommend to register the license server as a service so that it will start automatically. Do this by launching

Windows Start > All Programs > Chaos Group > V-Ray License Server for x64 > Register V-Ray License Service

Mac

  1. Make sure the hardware lock is in the computer that will be running V-Ray

  3. Go to http://localhost:30304 in firefox/chrome
  4. If you see "Get status of the server" you have connection to the license server

We recommend to register the license server as a service so that it will start automatically. Do this by starting it manually, then right clicking its icon and from the Options menu, then click Open at Login.
